View from my kitchenwindow into the courtyard. A fascinating and diverse place where the world outside is reproduced in a softer, slightly blurred image. The flat building in the middle is home to a plumber’s workshop and a webdesign agency. In the basement orthodox jews seem to have a community centre. From one balcony, you can hear two Italian women talking with each other enthusiastically. Brown, black and white children who have creatively melted all their languages with German are haunting saber-toothed tigers. They must mean the cats that you can hear hissing every morning. An old man is annoyed by the noise the children are making as they are approaching the cat that they must have identified as the dangerous saber-toothed tiger. The angry, old man promises to buy them an ice-cream if they stop making noise. Clearly, he has not understood of what importance their hunting mission also is to him. How can he live in a courtyard that is inhabited by saber-toothed tigers? He’d better be grateful for this coloured group of children only secures the old man’s survival. That is the way civilized societies work…
