This is the Cokeman. He collects the empty coke bottles which then are transported on a lorry to a factory where they are refilled again. To collect coke bottles is a lucrative business for children, as they get some cents for every bottle they bring the cokeman. The Cokeman, however, is not only transporting coke bottles, but also moving all kind of stuff with his pushcart. That’s how he is making a living. Actually, you can get the feeling that almost half of a village’s population is trying to make a living by carrying and moving stuff on pushcarts or simply their backs. The problem then is, that they have to spend most of their time waiting for somebody to give them something they can move on their pushcart. Whether they are waiting for work or just pushing their pushcart around actually earning some money, does not make that much a difference. Both are exhausting activities under the burning, African sun.
