Darwin’s Nightmare is a frightening documentary about globalization and how it affects the poorest who cannot defend themselves; who has not seen it yet, should go to the video store, rent the movie and watch it. Although it contains some questionable material, it still manages to transport a true and somehow sad message: Some profit from the misery of others.

Still, the people living at the shore of Lake Victoria do not only suffer from the globalization’s effects, but also from an environmental catastrophe: the lake is drying up. The people living at the shore may not all realize how severe the consequences might be. A Tanzanianb friend once told me, that it would not be that bad, if the lake dried up. “Then the island in the Lake would be like a mountain and there would be snow and some Arabs would build a ski resort where we could go skiing.” He obviously had understood the ways the global economy worked….
