The Zurich Hotel in Mwanza is a small guesthouse where you only pay three to five dollars per night. The advertised, self-contAined rooms of course cost a little bit more, but if you bargain wily you will get some discount. Because the market rules. There are plenty of guesthouses in Mwanza, as the government had decided to repay the taxes the guesthouse owners had to pay for the material out of which the guesthouses had been built. Suddenly, building a guesthouse became a profitable business, even though there is not enough tourism in Mwanza.

This picture will surely confirm Zurichean friends’ impression of Zurich being a globally known town. Sadly I have to tell them that the owner did not really know where Zurich was… But he surely liked the sound of the word Zurich!
