When I was teaching English in Mwanza, Tanzania, I once asked my students whether they knew what they wanted to be one day. “What is your dream job?”, I asked them. The answers were quite diverse: “Pilot, teacher, president, prophet!” One boy even told me that he wanted to be a businessman like his father is one. Western people might think, that businessman is as unrealistic as pilot or president; but they are wrong. In fact, businessman is the most realistic answer I got from my students, because in Africa businessman or businesswoman means something slightly different than in Europe. That little girl on the picture above selling dry cakes on the Ilha de Mozambique is in indeed a very good example of an ambitious businesswoman.
